Setting Up Guest Wifi

Your customers require reliable access to the internet in order to receive the best experience with your store and PETZ!

We recommend the Google Mesh System (though any one would work) to provide your store with the best consistent wifi so that they have access to the app even if your store is in somewhat of a deadzone for mobile data. Below is a link to the recommended Mesh System on Amazon and the steps to set up guest wifi.

How to Set Up Google Nest WiFi Pro (Wi-Fi 6E)

What You’ll Need:

  • Your new Google Nest WiFi Pro System
  • A smartphone or tablet with internet access
  • Google Home app (free, available in the App Store or Google Play Store)

Steps to Set Up:

  1. Unbox Everything:
    • In the box, you should find 2 Google Nest WiFi units (routers), power cables, and an Ethernet cable.
  2. Download the Google Home App:
    • Go to the App Store or Google Play Store and download the Google Home app. This is what you'll use to control everything.
  3. Plug in the First Unit (Main Router):
    • Take one of the Nest WiFi units and plug it into a power outlet.
    • Connect it to your modem using the Ethernet cable included in the box. Your modem is what gives you internet access, and this step connects the Nest WiFi to your internet source.
  4. Open the Google Home App:
    • Open the app and log in with your Google account if you haven’t already.
    • Tap “Set up device” and then “New device”.
  5. Follow the On-Screen Instructions:
    • The app will search for the Nest WiFi. When it finds it, tap to begin setup.
    • You’ll need to name your WiFi network (e.g., “My Home WiFi”) and create a password. This will be the network name and password you use to connect your devices to the internet.
  6. Add the Second Unit (Extender):
    • Once the first unit is set up, you can add the second Nest WiFi unit to extend coverage.
    • Place it in another room where you need better WiFi (try to keep it about halfway between the main router and the area with weak signal).
    • Plug it into a power outlet.
    • Go back to the Google Home app and tap to “Add another device”. Follow the instructions to add the second unit.
  7. Set Up Guest WiFi:
    • This makes it so visitors can use the internet without accessing your main devices:
      • Open the Google Home app.
      • Tap on WiFi -> Guest Network.
      • Turn it on and set a name and password for your guest WiFi. This way, guests have internet access but don’t see your other devices.
  8. Test Your WiFi:
    • Once setup is complete, connect a phone, tablet, or laptop to the new WiFi network you just created to test the connection.
    • You should have strong coverage in most areas of your home!

Tips:

  • Placement Matters: Place the units in open spaces (not behind furniture) for the best signal.
  • Check the App: Use the Google Home app to check the status of your network, run speed tests, or troubleshoot if something isn’t working.
